Day One: In The Books and Blessed

Shenendehowa UMC Workcamp 2016
Woonsocket, RI

The day began with a commissioning service during our 9am worship service.  Thanks to all who participated Sunday morning and sent us off with prayers and praise!  With a quick departure from the service, we loaded up the highly decorated vans and headed to Woonsocket, RI.

We loaded up seven vans, a truck and trailer and the adventure began.  Ray Cerrone and his crew arrived first, which he was happy to let all of us know! J  Thankfully everyone else was arrived safely close behind.  After unloading the trailer and moving in to the (air conditioned) school classrooms, we headed out for a quick lunch before our opening program which began at 3pm.  It was during this opening that Pastor Lee was surprised when called front and center.  408 youth and adults proceeded to sing Happy Birthday to him on his 50th birthday.

The rest of the day was spent in games, worship, singing, theme promotion, dinner, meeting our work camp crews, and evening devotions.  One interesting fact about this particular mission organization is that none of the Shen UMC people work on the same crew with each other—we are all divided amongst the 68 different projects.  We are working with youth and adults from New Jersey, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Maine, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New York, Michigan, Connecticut and likely some others I have forgotten!

The lights just went out for the night, so I will end this for now.  Remember, our hope is to have an update of some sort each day.  So do check back and please keep us in your prayers.  Specifically pray for a quick and smooth connection between each of the crews we are assigned to and also pray for the families we will be serving this week.  Thanks and enjoy just a few of the shots from today.  God is good…All the time…All the time…God is good!
