A New Addition To Workcamp 2016...A Daily Blog!

Shenendehowa UMC Workcamp 2016
Woonsocket, RI

Thanks for checking out our Workcamp 2016 Blog!  Jesus sent out his followers into all the world to bear witness to the coming of the Kingdom of God and to serve humankind. They did so rejoicing. Because of their witness and that of all who succeeded them, the gospel still challenges us to witness and service. Our goal is to keep all our family, friends and supporters up to date with the work, worship and fun we are having as we go forth to serve Christ and represent Shen UMC. We hope to have pictures, story updates and prayer requests as uploaded on a daily basis--assuming we have a way of doing so.  For that reason, we hope you will check back daily!

As we prepare to leave, we thought it would be helpful to look back before looking forward. Here are a couple of testimonies from two of our youth that went on Workcamp 2015. This is just one of the many reasons our adult volunteers willingly give a week of their time to serve alongside our youth in this life-changing ministry each year.

Workcamp 2015 was the best work camp I've been to, given I've only been to 2. I was so glad that I was able to make a change in my residents life by helping her in more than just her home. My residents name was Ogla, and she came from a long line of Oglas. Her husband very much disagreed on the whole Jesus thing and he was angry all the time. One day during our lunch devotional, we prayed for him. Ever since that date, I've been in contact with the residents daughter and she has said that he now goes to church every Sunday. That's just one of the ways that makes Workcamp so awesome.

When I started Workcamp I debated if I should join.  Now, it’s not even a question that I will be a part of Workcamp again this year. I stumbled upon an anonymous quote that said “making one person smile can change the world, maybe not the whole world.. but their world.” At the beginning of the Workcamp week our project of painting a house and porch seemed impossible.  I’d noticed the family didn’t seem to have a lot of confidence in us. As the week went on and they saw our progress their doubt changed to smiles and appreciation.  At the end of the week the family was so thankful to have a beautifully painted home and porch. I believe we did change their world, and made it just a little brighter.
